How Does a Ductless Mini-Split Work?

There are both indoor and outdoor components of a ductless mini-split. The outdoor compressor/condenser is connected to an indoor wall unit. The two units are linked by a conduit containing the power cable, suction tubing, refrigerant tubing and a condensate drain.

In summer the ductless mini-split acts as an air conditioner. With the compressor/condenser located outdoors, operation noise and humidity are reduced for greater personal comfort.

In cold weather months the process is reversed. Cold air is transferred through the outdoor heat pump and distributed by the indoor wall unit.

Installing a highly efficient ductless mini-split will save on over-all central air system utility bills. An estimated 25-40% of a typical home’s energy is wasted through the system’s ductwork (and in unoccupied rooms). The ductless mini-split heats or cools only the room or zone area that you need.
